Careers
Children's Discovery Center takes great pride in hiring, training, and retaining the best teachers to be on our team. The hiring process involves three steps, and includes a complete FBI/BCI background check. Those hired by CDC attend a formal orientation at the corporate office and receive additional classroom training.
Step 1: Initial interview. Applicants discuss their resume and completed application with the center administrator, who will ask questions related to past educational and work experiences, as well as educational philosophy.
Step 2: Second interview. Those selected will be invited to do a second interview in the classroom, which will involve observing and participating in the teaching experience. Candidates are instructed to bring along two activities which can be done with the children, and will be given an opportunity to work with a small group of children under the supervision of the teacher. This will allow the candidate to determine whether CDC is a good fit, as well as allowing CDC to evaluate the candidate in the classroom setting.
Step 3: Third interview. Those who have successfully completed the second interview in the classroom will be contacted to attend a third interview with another supervisor. Any further questions can be asked at this time, including potential wages, benefits, and opportunities. At this third interview, the candidate may be offered a position and asked to attend the formal orientation.
Orientation. These formal group sessions are conducted once a week at the corporate office in Maumee. The candidate will be instructed to bring the following: driver license or state I.D.; Medical Statement signed by a phyician or nurse practitioner; proof of high school graduation, usually diploma; proof of further education such as college degree and/or teaching license; social security card. Employment papers will be completed and a review of our Human Resource Manual will be conducted. Candidates will receive paperwork to take to obtain their fingerprints from National Background Check in Arrowhead Park, Maumee. Once the orientation is completed, medical and diploma are on file, and fingerprints have been taken, the new employee may contact the administrator for the exact time and date to begin work.
Substitute Teachers: All substitutes go through the same interview and orientation process as described above. However, we hire for substitutes on a continuous basis throughout the year, and the substitute files are maintained at our corporate office rather than any one location.
