Whether it is the cake, balloons, or singing, everyone loves a
birthday party! What better reason to have a birthday party than celebrating 30
years of caring for and educating young children in the greater Toledo
community!

On Thursday, June 14, 2012, over 1,000 children across the greater
Toledo area celebrated the 30^th anniversary of Children’s Discovery
Center. Children were busy making signs, playing carnival games, enjoying water
balloons, and singing birthday songs. Even the infant and toddler children
became excited as they were able to have a taste of the large birthday cakes
that were provided to each center to celebrate this special day.

Children’s Discovery Center opened on June 14, 1982 on Holland
Road in Arrowhead Park with eight children and has grown substantially through
the years as the need for quality child care became increasingly important.
Many of the early students have gone on to become counselors, fashion
designers, financial experts, teachers and other professionals. Many second generation
students now attend CDC. Although the first building is no longer operating as
a child care center, CDC has eight buildings in Toledo serving approximately
1,400 children and employing 200 individuals. CDC also offers two kindergarten
programs, a first and second grade, and a full-day Camp Discovery program in
the summer.

CDC builds new Recreation Campus

Ask any school-age child what his favorite summer activity is, and
he is likely to respond “swimming!!” What could be more refreshing than the
splash of cool water on a hot July day. Because Children’s Discovery Center has
a long history of caring for school-age children on a full time basis during
the summer in our Camp Discovery program, we are excited to announce the
development of our Recreation Campus at our Waterville location due to be
available summer 2013. This will include an in-ground swimming pool staffed
with lifeguards, a basketball court, soccer field, volleyball area, and more.

This summer will mark the 30^th Anniversary that
Children’s Discovery Center has been caring for the needs of working families
in the greater Toledo area with full-time, high-quality early care and
education, dedicated staff, and cutting edge facilities. As the latest CDC
innovation, the Recreation Campus at Waterville will enhance the Camp Discovery
repertoire of activities which have included swimming, weekly field trips, digital
media experiences, horseback riding, resource speakers, crafts, team sports, a
visit to Challenger Learning Center, and Olympic tournaments. All CDC centers
that offer Camp Discovery will utilize the Recreation Campus on a rotating
basis throughout the week so Campers from each CDC facility will share in the
benefits. Since swimming will now be offered in-house, additional types of
water activities may be explored, including swim lessons and swim teams. The
basketball court and soccer field will provide ample opportunity for large
motor activities and skill development, as well as providing an appropriate
venue for intra-mural games to be held at the end of the summer. CDC has always
been committed to development of the whole child, including proper nutrition
and exercise, and the Recreation Campus will make that philosophy a reality.
