Lois Mitten Rosenberry

President and CEO

Children’s Discovery Center – Corporate Office

Lois Mitten Rosenberry founded Children’s Discovery Center in 1982 and has served as President and CEO of the company since that time. Mrs. Rosenberry has extensive experience in early childhood development and has served as a college professor, and a child care consultant for several private and public organizations.

Recognized as an innovator in her field, Mrs. Rosenberry has been featured in Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Executive Female, Early Childhood News, and others. She is a Milestone for Women recipient and Athena Award winner. She has been named Northwest Ohio Entrepreneur of the Year, Small Business Person of the Year, Ohio Child-Care Administrator of the Year, and serves as Chairperson of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce Small Business Council. In 2005 Mrs. Rosenberry received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Enterprise and was inducted as an Ohio Commodore.  She serves on the Boards of 5/3 Bank, AAA Northwest Ohio, Ohio Chamber of Commerce, and Ohio Association of Child Care Providers.

In addition to leadership in her field, Mrs. Rosenberry is committed to several charitable projects. She has partnered with others to create a home (the Deborah Center) for abandoned and abused girls in the city of Timisoara, Romania and serves on the Advisory Board of Veritas, a non-profit organization which provides a variety of services for the families of Sighisoara, Romania.

Mrs. Rosenberry holds a BA degree in Behavioral Science from Messiah College, Grantham, PA and a Master’s Degree in Education from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She is a coauthor of Inspiring Spaces for Young Children and Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Spaces.  She has three grown daughters, all of whom are graduates of Children’s Discovery Center. Her five grandchildren currently attend Children’s Discovery Center and two of her daughters work for the company.

 

Mary Ann Rody

Chief Operating Officer

Children’s Discovery Center – Corporate Office

As one of the first employees hired for the Southwyck location of CDC when it opened in 1986, Mrs. Rody has served in many capacities including Pre-K and Kindergarten Teacher, Southwyck and Talmadge Administrator, Human Resources Manager, and is currently Chief Operating Officer for the company.

Mrs. Rody has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from John Carroll University in Cleveland, as well as credits towards a Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of Toledo. She was instrumental in introducing the Reggio Emilia philosophy to CDC after she and Mrs. Rosenberry studied the model in Italy as part of the U.S. delegation in 1994.

Mrs. Rody serves on the advisory board for Penta ECE Program, as well as serving as board member for EC3 Committee for Help Me Grow, and is past President of TAEYC. She is a coauthor of Inspiring Spaces for Young Children and Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Spaces.  Mrs. Rody has three adult children.

Scott Nicholson

Scott Nicholson brought a wealth of financial and organizational experience to Children’s Discovery Center in January 2012.  With nearly twelve years of creating, implementing, organizing, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures, Mr. Nicholson utilizes his education and expertise in a capacity that promotes early childhood education.  Being a proud and devoted father and a former youth hockey coach, he appreciates the important role that quality education plays in a child’s life.  Before joining the Corporate Management Team, Mr. Nicholson worked as Chief Financial Officer for both Pagliai’s Inc. and Basement Experts of America, LLC. While working at Pagliai’s Inc., he simultaneously built Sunset Reality of BG, LLC. In addition to his impeccable work ethic and his tireless devotion to his family, Mr. Nicholson thoroughly enjoys athletics; he attended Siena Heights University on a baseball scholarship before transferring to Bowling Green State University where he earned a BA degree in Graphic Design and minor in Accounting. He is currently a member of Findlay’s Men’s Hockey League.  Scott has one child who attends Children’s Discovery Center.

 

 

Jessica DeViney

Vice President

Children’s Discovery Center – Corporate Office

Jessica DeViney has been an employee of Children’s Discovery Center since 1993, and has held previous positions as Teacher, Art Director, Business Manager, Assistant Administrator, Administrator, and Marketing Director.

She is an active member of the community, participating in the University of Toledo’s Family Business Center, educational study groups, and the Leadership Toledo Program. She is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University and additional course work in education at the Master’s level.

Mrs. DeViney has co-authored and photographed twelve children’s books, as well as Inspiring Spaces for Young Children, and Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Environments. Mrs. DeViney has been a Creative Environment Consultant for Kaplan Early Learning Company, Ohio child care centers, and the United States Air Force.  She has two children who attend Children’s Discovery Center.

 

Sara Mitten-Harris

Special Projects Coordinator/Creative Director

Sara Harris has been an employee of Children’s Discovery Center since 2001, and has held previous positions as Teacher & Administrator.  She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky.

Mrs. Harris has been an Creative Environment Consultant for child care facilities in Ohio and Pennsylvania as well as for Kaplan Early Learning Company. She is the co-author of twelve children’s books in addition to  Inspiring Spaces for Young Children, and Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Environments.  She has four children who attend Children’s Discovery Center.

 

Belinda Costin

Educational Director

Children’s Discovery Center – Corporate Office

Belinda Costin first joined Children’s Discovery Center in 2002.  She has her Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University and is a Graduate of the University of Dayton with a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.  Her previous positions with Children’s Discovery Center include Head Teacher and Administrator at three locations.  She has been employed by High Reach Learning as a contracted writer for “Passports” Curriculum – A curriculum for teachers to use with children ages three to five.  She has previously taught 2nd through 8th Grades and was the Principal at two separate Kindergarten to Grade 8 institutions.

At the present time, Ms. Costin mentors and coaches teachers of the company, assisting with lesson planning, classroom management, curriculum, and project work. She is also the principal of Discovery School, a new educational endeavor for Kindergarten through Second Grade, begun by Children’s Discovery Center. Ms. Costin also does trainings on Reggio Emilia, the Project Approach, and Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Infants through School Agers. Ms. Costin is also on the Board of Directors for the Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children.

Kristin Tansel has been a Children’s Discovery Center employee since 2004, and has held previous positions as Art Teacher, Teacher, Administrative Assistant, and ELI Coordinator.  She has her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Bowling Green State University and is certified as a K-12 teacher.

Prior to joining CDC, she was an Art Teacher at a private school in Virginia.  She has two children who attend Children’s Discovery Center.

Allison Mates has been a Children’s Discovery Center employee since 2007, and has held previous positions as a Head Teacher in the Infant, Preschool, and Pre-K Departments.  She is also an Assistant Administrator at the Holland location.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies as well as a Minor in Intervention Services from Bowling Green State University.

Angel Heath has been a Children’s Discovery Center employee since 1996, and has held previous positions as Head Teacher and Coordinator of the Preschool Department, Head Teacher and Coordinator of the Toddler Department, and Pre-K Assistant.

She has attended Monroe Community College and Hillsdale College.  Mrs. Heath has her CDA Certificate awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., 2003, and received her National Administrator Credential (NAC) from The National Child Care Association, in 2006.    She has a child who attends Children’s Discovery Center.

Lisa Hornyak has been a Children’s Discovery Center employee since 1998 and has 28 years of previous experience working with children.  Ms. Hornyak has served CDC as Administrator at several locations including Southwyck, Downtown, Wolf Creek, and Waterville.

She has her CDA degree in child development, and earned her National Administrator Credential (NAC) from The National Child Care Association in 2006.  She has two adult children.

Cindi Taylor has been a Children’s Discovery Center employee since 2007, and was previously with CDC from 1985-1992.  She has held previous positions as Toddler Head Teacher, Pre-kindergarten Teacher, Administrative Assistant, and Administrator. Mrs. Taylor has 15 years experience as a licensed social worker, Director of Early Start/Help Me Grow Programs, and Saturday School Programs (for 3-5 years olds) at BGSU.

She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Therapy with a Psychology minor.  She is a Certified Family Development Specialist. Mrs. Taylor has additional coursework, training, and certifications related to children and child development.  Mrs. Taylor has 2 children who attended Children’s Discovery Center.
